Ethereum Glamsterdam Upgrade: 10,000 TPS, 78% Gas Fee Reduction, and the Road to June
Ethereum's biggest hard fork since The Merge is coming in June 2026. Glamsterdam promises 10,000 TPS, 78% gas fee cuts, and parallel transaction execution. Here's the full breakdown.

The Biggest Ethereum Upgrade Since The Merge
Ethereum is preparing for Glamsterdam — its most significant hard fork since The Merge in September 2022. Set to go live in June 2026, this upgrade targets a massive leap in scalability: 10,000 transactions per second and a 78% reduction in gas fees.
For context, Ethereum currently processes about 15-30 TPS on Layer 1. Glamsterdam represents a 300x improvement. Let me break down the technical details and what they mean for users.
Key Technical Changes
1. Parallel Transaction Execution
Currently, Ethereum processes transactions sequentially — one after another. Glamsterdam introduces parallel execution, allowing the network to process multiple non-conflicting transactions simultaneously. Think of it like upgrading from a single-lane road to a multi-lane highway.
2. Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation (ePBS) — EIP-7732
This is the most technically significant change. Currently, MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) extraction happens through a complex off-chain relay system. EIP-7732 enshrines the separation between block proposers and block builders directly into Ethereum's consensus protocol, reducing MEV extraction costs and improving fairness.
3. Gas Limit Increase
The gas limit is being raised "toward and beyond" 100 million, allowing more transactions per block without compromising network stability.
Historical ETH Price Action Before Upgrades
Here's why traders are paying attention: Ethereum has historically rallied 20-40% in the 6-8 weeks before major upgrades. If that pattern holds, April could be a pivotal accumulation month for ETH.
| Upgrade | Date | Price 8 Weeks Before | Price at Upgrade | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Merge | Sep 2022 | ~$1,100 | ~$1,600 | +45% |
| Shanghai/Capella | Apr 2023 | ~$1,500 | ~$1,900 | +27% |
| Dencun | Mar 2024 | ~$2,300 | ~$4,000 | +74% |
Network Growth Is Already Accelerating
Ethereum processed over 200 million transactions in Q1 2026 — a 43% quarterly surge. This growth is happening before Glamsterdam even launches, suggesting massive pent-up demand that the upgrade will unlock.
My Bitcoin-First Take
I'm a Bitcoiner first, but I respect genuine technical innovation. Glamsterdam addresses real scalability bottlenecks. If successful, it could solidify Ethereum's position as the dominant smart contract platform for years to come.
That said, remember: every upgrade carries execution risk. The Merge went smoothly, but bugs in complex protocol changes can cause issues. Don't go all-in on an anticipated upgrade rally — diversify your exposure and never invest more than you can afford to lose.
ETH is currently trading around $2,055. Whether Glamsterdam drives a rally or the market needs more time to recover from macro headwinds remains to be seen. Follow the developments in our blog section.
